La musica de Keiko Matsui es un Jazz Contemporáneo fácil de escuchar con hermosos temas, a veces pensativa, triste, a veces juguetóna, a veces soñadora y romántica, escuchando sus discos te puede recordar a Enya, aunque su estilo esta bastante lejos de ella, pero algo está en el estado de ánimo general de sus canciones. Tal vez un anhelo por la libertad del mar azul profundo y el viento libre del mar.

Hidamari no ki ( El árbol que da sombra ) del doctor Tezuka Osamu
En "El Árbol que da sombra", Tezuka Osamu describe la vida de su bisabuelo,Tezuka Ryôsen y sus amigos, quienes estudiaron en la Escuela "Tekijuku" y la época de grandes cambios en Japán expuesto de repente a las influencias de las potencias occidentales. Uno puede vivir el ambiente de esa época por la obra cumbre de Tezuka Osamu.
Osamu Tezuka (1928 - 1989), creador del mítico Astroboy y considerado como el "padre del manga" es el autor de Hidamari no ki, manga que publicó entre 1981 y 1986 en la revista para adultos Big Comic. En ésta obra, Tezuka nos sitúa en un periodo crucial para japón a través de un personaje real y otro ficticio: Manjirô Ibuya, un samurái y Ryôan Tezuka, médico (que es ni mas ni menos que el bisabuelo del autor).

Keiko Matsui, nacida en Tokio como Keiko Doi el 26 de julio de 1961, es una compositora y tecladista japonesa en el género smooth jazz/new age. Su carrera abarca tres décadas, durante las cuales ha editado veinte CD y varias compilaciones, siendo reconocida internacionalmente.

On her public Television special, "Keiko Matsui: Light Above The Trees," Keiko opens saying "Music is like prayer. That's why I'm here." The "here" she is referring to is the Itsukushima Shrine in Japan. Near Hiroshima, it has been a spiritual place for Japanese people for more than 1200 years. It is an appropriate locale, given the spiritual way in which she approaches music. Her new album is entitled "Full Moon and the Shrine." Keiko says the origin of the album and television special are based on a song of the same name. "The tune 'Full Moon and the Shrine' was composed for our Public TV special. The opening scene was shot in Japan at the Shinto shrine which stands half in the ocean. We chose the day of shooting at the highest ocean tide on the night of a full moon. The album project was started with this tune so that we carried over the spiritual air from this shrine into other songs. It was not so intentional, but carrying over the qualities of native spirits of Japan may have become the theme for the album. It is almost like air, and might not be so obvious musically. There are many different music styles in the album, including some R&B. But it was not difficult to have the spiritual air from the shrine into even R&B tunes. Music is one form of prayer anyway. That is where all music originally belongs. Bautizada como la primera dama del jazz contemporáneo, Keiko Matsui ha estado rodeada de música toda su vida. Su madre le enseñó danza tradicional japonesa, y su marido Kazu Matsui toca la flauta shakuhachi. Matsui, quien comenzó a tocar el piano y componer la música a una edad muy joven, ha desarrollado su propio estilo multicultural que ha tocado los corazones de los aficionados de todo el mundo.
Keiko Matsui, nacida Keiko Doi el 26 de julio de 1963, en Tokio, Japón, comenzó a tomar lecciones de piano cuando tenía sólo cinco años de edad.
